"Key West apartments are available, but . . .!"
Key West apartments are available, but you are going to have to do some looking to find what you want for the rent you are willing to pay.
There are two apartment complexes larger than the rest. They are Ocean Walk Apartments and West Isle Club Apartments. West Isle was sold in the summer of 2007 and reportedly is going condo. I don't think you will be thrilled by either place. There are several smaller complexes and apartment buildings, of varying quality. Overall, I consider Key West to be a poor city for apartment seekers. If you need a place fast (not your ideal situation), just start visiting the places with onsite offices. If you want to go through an intermediary, the real estate firms have rental listings. If you prefer to deal directly with an owner, there are ads in the newspapers and online. Units with one bedroom rent for about $1,300 to $1,800 monthly. Standard leases are for seven months to one year. If you don't have to have onsite management, you can find plenty of vacant condos and townhouses as an alternative to apartment life.
