"Key West travel is easy!"
Key West travel is easy and there are many good ways to get there. I think your best way depends on your distance, your time, and your required comfort and convenience.
If you are traveling a great distance (feel free to use your own definition of great distance) and don't want to spend a lot of time on your journey, flying is the only way.Key West International Airport is open to general aviation as well as commercial flights, so the best way is to take your own
airplane
(a jet saves time. Just use your
headset
to contact the control tower. If you have time and don't get seasick (or at least think you won't) you may experience a pleasant voyage by yacht or the
Key West Express ferry.
If you will be satisfied with a brief visit (arrive in the morning and leave before the sunset), you may travel on a cruise ship. Visitors coming from other points in Florida often will take the scenic drive down the Overseas Highway along the Florida Keys. If you are contemplating this means of transportation, please keep in mind that you will be leaving the multi-lane Interstate and the Florida Turnpike behind on the mainland. (Think of it this way. The slower travel on Highway 1 will help to ease you down to the pace of Key West.) If you don't have a vehicle and can't borrow one, you may rent one in Miami or one of the other nearby Florida cities.
