"The Pelican Path!"

The Pelican Path is a brochure that serves as a map for a self-guided walking tour of historic Old Town Key West's architectural heritage. Now listen up. If you have any interest in old houses or architecture you should take this tour.

The map shows the location of some 50 buildings, each of which has a visible yellow and blue pelican plaque attached. The brochure also provides interesting stories about each of the buildings and some of the famous inhabitants.

Five of the buildings on this walking tour are open to the public. Here's a tip. If you follow the numbers in order, you won't have to retrace your path too often. Here's a reminder. Since the tour is free, don't think you have to hike the whole thing in one day.

The brochure was produced by the Old Island Restoration Foundation, which was formed decades ago and is dedicated to preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of Key West. Judging by the number of old buildings, it looks like they are doing a good job.

The brochure is free and available at the Chamber of Commerce or the Hospitality House at Mallory Square. You can't beat that price.
